We tend to express much more what we are unsatisfied and unhappy about than what we are happy and satisfied about. Likewise we tend to remember much more what people told us when complaining than when appreciating us. That is why we often feel unappreciated. In both situation the focus remains mainly on the negative.
It takes conscious effort to express genuine positive validation and appreciation. It takes some more conscious effort to remember what people tell us when they do express it.
