musings about Halloween

While disgusing for Halloween to join some friends, I wondered what this actually was about? Many times we just follow the crowd in doing things without knowing why and/or what it means to us.
So I stopped for a second and wondered why was I feeling in the mood of being scary and ugly rather than the typical dark but yet attractive outfit? I believe it was the first time that I wanted to fully express my darkness without shame out there. It was the night to do it so.
While preparing, I was imagining how bad, naughty and crazy I could be. I was even in front of the mirror and playing these different possible characters. Characters which are in me and which have so little space to speak up.
Halloween is the day we celebrate death, the dead and the underworlds. Where we embrace the imagination of being monsters, vampires or any creatures of the night. They don't exist in our imagination. They exist in reality within us and we suppress them whenever they make an appearance. We give them so little space, they often escape from our consciousnes fortress by entering the unconsciousness where they have much more space to wander. And this is when it can get out of control.
How would you react if after being confined in a jail room for years you finally manage to escape? Wouldn't you fully by all means enjoy your freedom?
This year, Halloween invited me to look for the parts in me that I keep emprisoned and to give them some space. This search made me realize that I need to look for them more regularly such that we all can live together in a balanced way. My fortress has many rooms and many roomates. Some are easiers than others but we all need to live together. Keeping the difficult ones locked in a room is increasing the chances to make them evolve into something even darker and stronger.
This Halloween I decided to embrace my dark sides and to enjoy the different most hidden parts of me. I invited them to join their celebration in order to share a lovely moment and bond.
